the realization of a dream
“Mid 2004 and well into 2005, I was on a mission. Now with it being my Senior year in High School and a mountain of decisions to make regarding my future, the ONLY one I was clear on, was that I wanted to create my best biking video yet. I was feeling more uncertainty than ever before because..
I wasn’t sure if and when I was going to have the chance to make another biking video with all my friends graduating and moving all over the country to pursue college. Of course I could have hired someone, it’s just I wasn’t even sure at the time how I wanted my future in biking to look. I was feeling new pressures of moving out, supporting myself, working two full time jobs, and going to a little bit of college on and off.
After heavily being influenced by other top pro trials and BMX street riders like Danny Macaskill, Martin Soderstrom, Jeff Lenosky, Ryan Leech, Harry Main, Dave Mirra, and many more, my riding style evolved A LOT over that year. Previous to this video, I had always mainly just ridden and competed observed bike trials. But I was so inspired after seeing other riders incorporate the technical aspect of trials into moving and flowing skatepark style riding, that I was hooked immediately! Learning new tricks and moves like crankflips, giant 360′s, bar spins, 180 tail taps over spines, wall rides, and backflips too! The world of big ramps, quarter pipes, and half pipes was very new to me especially on a mountain bike, but I loved every minute of it!
And now that Andy and I had cars, we even started traveling a few hours, a couple times a week “over the hill” to San Jose, California which was the home of our favorite indoor bike and skatepark at the time, “Vans”. There we could practice year round with top street BMX riders escaping the dark and wet times of Northern California weather. That same year, I even had the opportunity to ride a week in PA at Woodwood East providing even more practice and experience in a skatepark setting.
Outside of various locations in the city of Santa Cruz, the rest of the clips were filmed in Monterey, California at the Sea Otter Classic and at Real Ride Skate Park in Lake Perris, Southern California.
In regards to the equipment we used to make the video, it was a Sony digital camcorder, HP desktop computer, and all editing was done on Adobe Premier Pro video editing software.
Although I graduated from High School early, they allowed me to come a couple weeks before graduation and show this video in front of the entire school! It was a blast and a wonderful way to end the school year! Hope you enjoy my 2005 bike video above! I would love to hear any questions or comments down below!”
