the pursuit of a dream
“Late 2003 and well into 2004, I was riding 2-3 hours per day, practicing as much as I could, and doing my first few NORBA observed trials competitions around the country. Comps were great because they allowed me meet others in the sport of bike trials around the nation and sometimes the world. Such a small percentage of..
mountain bikers ride trials, it’s easy to think you’re the only one sometimes! Now as Juniors in High School, anytime we weren’t working or at school, Andy and I would always find time to ride our bikes, no matter what time of day. At that point in our lives, a lot of our riding inspiration came from pro riders like Hans Rey, Ryan Leech, Jeff Lenosky, Aaron Chase, Danny Macaskill and many more! Although Andy and I enjoyed going for the occasional off road mountain bike ride or maybe dirt jumping session, our favorite was always freeriding the city streets!
Funny enough, in our spare time when we were tired from riding, we even started playing video games like “Dave Mirra – BMX Challenge” and “Dave Mirra – Freestyle BMX” to play on Andy’s Xbox, PlayStation, or Nintendo Wii. Believe it or not, playing video games like this would help stretch our imaginations as to what could be possible for us to do in real life!
Well after successfully making our first bike video the previous year, we decided it was time for a new one. I had progressed so much since we last filmed, so I was JUICED to film this new video! Like the first video, we still didn’t have much access to cars or tons of money for traveling, so we shot the entire video within riding distances of where we both lived in Santa Cruz, Northern California. For this video I actually got a new bike after breaking both my Diamond ‘Response’ and old Planet X ‘Zebdi’ frame.
I ended up getting a newer Planet X ‘Zebdi’ that was supposedly a lot stronger than the last.
One thing I was really excited about with this video was that because the song we choose, Rob Dougan – “Clubbed To Death” (Kurayamino Mix) had a small section that was a slower pace which created the perfect opportunity to add in my observed trials section out on the jagged rocks of the Santa Cruz Harbor. After getting all our final footage together, editing it all, and creating the finished product you see above, we got to show the video in front hundreds of students at our High School which was GREAT! In regards to the equipment we used to make the video, it was a Sony digital camcorder, HP desktop computer, and all editing was done on Adobe Premier Pro video editing software. Hope you enjoy my second bike video! I would love to hear any questions or comments down below!”
